On September 10,20011 early in the morning at 8:45am ,two brothers Damion and Karl were walking to karl car as
they were getting in . A unidentify young man came up to the car and shot them.Karl was shot in the chest and eye,
his brother was shot in shoulder. One of the young man cried help and the other crawl to grandmother house where they call911. Nearby neighbors didnt come out until they heard the ambulance. Police went to house to house to see if anyone saw the suspect, but did not response from anyone.
I feel this is bystander effect ,because many heard gun shots and nobody did not come out until hey heard the ambulance.
We often have question or doubt about young adults being involve in gang activity. First thing is we are slow to response to a situation like this because of fear. Secondly , retaliation if we speak not knowing that if its gamg related. Damion and Karl were traumatized by the incident and is getting couseling.
Damien and Karl have a frightening experience. Not one person came out to help after the shooting. It's hard to imagine what they were thinking while crawling for help. Your comments about why people don't get involved reflects the "real" situations in our neighborhoods. How do we defeat these factors and help one another more often? That's a question I can't answer but I hope more people decide to assist when assistance is needed.
